Awarded the 2016 New Jersey Parks and Recreation Award for Design Excellence. The new Savanna Zoo Café, and its second floor outdoor bar Zanzibar, is an African Safari themed restaurant with references to tree top huts complete with seemingly hand-tooled and primitive construction materials in a tree house like jungle habitat above an African plain. The design features split log and simulated grass thatch hut structures at the center of the zoo complex. The adventure theme is complete with a giant snake retaining wall wrapping the outdoor patio area, an original design 30’ high retro-inspired travel poster and a hand-tooled monument sign designed by the firm.
